One of the first questions that I always receive when people learn that I’m a photographer is “what do you shoot?” I honestly do think that there are a few camera companies out there marking incredible equipment and that you just need to pick a poison. I picked the Canon system because it’s what I’ve used since I got my first digital camera. I didn’t pick Canon because it was better or because it had some particular feature, but rather because my good friends had Canons and I wanted to be able to borrow their lenses. If you’re getting started, I still feel that this is a COMPLETELY VALID reason for picking a camera brand. Then, if you want to slowly upgrade, just upgrade because either a) your current equipment isn’t able to do something specific that you need to better make the images you want to make or b) your stuff broke. So, here is a quick list of the cameras and lenses that I bring to a wedding.
Cameras:
Canon R6
Canon 5D mk3
Lenses:
Canon 24mm f1.4
Canon 50mm f1.2L
Canon 50mm f1.8 (just for backup)
Canon 135mm f2
Film gear:
Unless you select an option that specifically includes film photos, I don’t guarantee to bring any film cameras to a wedding. That said, film is such an important aspect within the photography world and I continue to dabble in it. Below is some of the cameras I use regularly and so who knows how and where they’ll show up.
Mamiya RZ67 – Medium format film
Mamiya 6 MF – Medium format film
Hasselblad 500 CM – Medium format film
Leica M6 – 35mm film
Canon ELAN 7e – 35mm SLR that uses the same lenses as my digital cameras
