“I think when you begin to think of yourself as having achieved something, then there’s nothing left for you to work towards. I want to believe that there is a mountain so high that I will spend my entire life striving to reach the top of it.”
– Cicely Tyson
Carrie and Chris met on the shores of Lake Washington. They were spending a few years in the Emerald City, but they really felt at home together in the mountains. Though life has taken them to the East Coast, they wanted to come back for their mountain engagement photos at Lake 22 and make images that celebrate the peaks that surround the city of their love.
We piled into my civic on an afternoon and headed up to the Lake 22 trailhead. It’s felt so nice to have summer be back with us all and to know that it was going to be light late into the evening. They had their essentials for the 2.7 mile climb, one backpack of nice clothes and another insulated bag for their favorite beers and ciders from 2 Beers.
We got up to the lake just as the only other inhabitants were headed down the trail and we had the mirrored surface to ourselves. I have rarely seen the lake so perfectly still and wonderfully set up for pictures. It’s also super helpful to be alone and not to feel too bad about yelling echoing posing instructions across the lake.
I was so impressed with the ease and joy that these two exuded. They just like being together and it was just so easy. After a few more kisses, we all sat and watched the sky turn red as we sipped our foamy drinks.
As we plodded down the trail under the thin beams of headlamps, I just couldn’t help but smile. Good people in the mountains, how can you get any better?
Thanks again to Carrie and Chris for going on that adventure engagement with me. I loved every minute of our time in the mountains!
