Erin and Kyle’s Kennedy School McMenamins engagement session was so uniquely them. As we wandered around the re-purposed school, they exuded their lovely Portlandia spirit, great senses of humor and the reason that they’re ready to get married. It was too fun.
Erin and Kyle met way back in their freshman year of High School during a track meet. They have stuck together through the rest of HS and even while attending rival universities. Kyle went to Oregon State, while Erin went to the University of Oregon. Though they had been together fore a long time, the 2013 Civil War game between the schools was the first time that they could bear to watch it together. I guess that’s love right, being able to put long standing, deeply held rivalries behind you? Even then, I did notice that Erin didn’t have any orange and Kyle omitted some green and yellow from their wardrobe selection. Relationships come one step at a time, right?
After a few photos at their home in Portland, we headed off to the Kennedy School McMenamins for more photos. For New Years 2011, they had decided to visit all of the historic McMenamins locations. They had been to this location before, but it was a fun symbol of their adventures together.
As a photographer, I cannot thank the staff of the space enough. They were so accommodating and helpful as we tramped around the property. Along with our photos, hotel guests, and the normal restaurants, there was also a breakfast with Santa going on. This place had something for everyone and was so fun to explore. If you’re going to be staying in North Portland, this is worth at least a beer, if not the night. When else can you stay in an old classroom, right?
Throughout the photo shoot, Erin and Kyle’s adventurous spirit and fun attitudes shone. Erika and I laughed along with them for the whole time and we cannot wait to photograph their wedding this summer.
